My Gratitude Post
In the midst of the daily mundane, it is easy to lose sight of thanksgiving. So I thought it would be nice to round up every end of the month with a gratitude post. Feel free to join me in the comments! Counting our blessings – in good times and in tough times is a practice that has helped me in more ways than one. Especially in trials, giving thanks is a sure-fire way to get me out of a negative funk and into a better place.
.Moments in January.
January was a month of recognizing the need to slow down. The holiday months were hectic and filled with one activity after another. I was so glad for slower days and more white space in my calendar when the new year rolled around. 🙂 This resulted in me being able to prepare more home cooked food, which was a goal of mine!
Though I was thankful for slower days, I was also having a bit of the FOMO – you know: the fear of missing out. Comparison did sneak up on me and left my heart sour on days when I was not on guard. I started to wonder if my words on this blog mattered. I asked God if there was really a purposeful ministry in this platform I was given. After all, there are so many (better) blogs out there!
But God continues to be faithful and sent encouragement my way. It was always so timely. So I have been learning to redirect my heart to bring my focus back to trusting God with this blog and little community that I have been entrusted with. It was not easy and I don’t think I’m done with that lesson yet, but I’m taking small steps and reminding myself on gratitude.
Anyway – blog work aside – Ellie fell ill in the second week of January and it was hard seeing her listless. She is usually a ball of energy so when I noticed a big dip, I knew something was amiss. She had never been this sick before (just a cold and fever, though!) and she had to take so many different types of medication. Thankfully she has recovered. 🙂
Her neck-wrap hugs and cheeky chuckles are the sweetest part of my days. She is now walking confidently and loves interacting with people as always. She is quite a chatty and affectionate one!
Oh and I received my breastmilk keepsake from Precious Lifetime Memories! I cried when I first saw it as memories just welled up straight away. Gone are the days of pumping, and now I have a sweet gift to pass to her when she is old enough to treasure this lovely necklace.
We spent meaningful time with family too, and at the end of the day – that’s what really matters, isn’t it? My grandma used to take care of me as a baby, so it is surreal to see her playing with Ellie right now. Life is amazing.
Ellie has also been enjoying time at the playground as well as “reading” books. It is adorable seeing her enjoy books so much!
Of course – this being the Chinese New Year weekend – we have been visiting relatives’ homes and feasting all the time. It gives the end of this month a sweet touch. 🙂
As you make plans for February and work at your own goals, may February’s desktop wallpaper bless you. Download it HERE. Let us remember that we were made for God’s special purpose and each of us have a unique calling that only we can fulfill!
Research shows us that cultivating the habit of gratitude has lots of benefits, including blocking toxic, negative emotions, helping us to be more stress resistant, and have a higher sense of self-worth. So take the time to ponder – what can you give thanks for this month?
Set your mind on things above, not on the things that are on earth.
So often, walking with our Lord Jesus requires us to remember all that He has done for us. Jesus loves me, this I know. But how often do we forget this. The act of gratitude helps us to tune into what has already been done, so we learn to trust him with more.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
However your month has turned out to be, there is always something to look back on with eyes of gratitude. Here is a FREE printable for you to jot your daily thanksgiving!
Have coffee with me?
If I could just have you over at my place, I would love to have coffee with you and just chat.
But this virtual table will have to do for now. 😉
So pull a chair up next to me and let us connect – mother to mother, sister to sister, friend to friend.
I’m all here, ready to listen. 🙂 How has your January been?
